published Monday, October 26, 2009   662 Views :: 3 Comments

Setting up your home office doesn't have to be expensive.  It can be as functional and as complete as any business office without the expense.  You just need to be creative to find the bargains that are out there.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Wait for sales and rebates.  If you can wait to purchase an item, do so.  ALWAYS ask the sales clerk if the item will be placed on sale soon.  If so, put it back on the shelf till later.
  2. Prowl the want ads.
  3. Watch for manufacturers' closeouts.
  4. Watch for business liquidation sales.  Businesses are going through bankruptcy every day and often sell off assets.
  5. Buy floor models and demonstrator units.
  6. Buy seconds.  Manufacturer's outlet stores often carry products that were damaged during the manufacturing process and sell them for discounts.
  7. Buy unfinished or unassembled furniture.
  8. Shop at Warehouse locations like Sams, Costco, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, etc.
  9. Go to office liquidation auctions.
  10. Shop at estate sales.
  11. Find slightly damaged office furniture and equipment from shipping companies.
  12. Use recycled products.
  13. Check out auctions.
  14. Compare telephone prices.
  15. Join an association for discounts on benefits, business insurance, travel, etc.
Keeping your home office costs down is easy once you get creative.
