Transitioning to a Career From Home

About to begin a new career at home?  Are you full of excitement and a little anxiety?  That is typically normal.  It's exciting to begin anew doing something you have always wanted to do.  But, at the same time, it's not always easy to leave the comfort of a regular career, steady paychecks, etc.

Transitioning in to your new home based business can be a bit overwhelming.  It is best to start your new business on a part time basis while you're holding down a regular full time job.  Doing so provides you with:

1.  The ability to develop and test your new business with virtually no risk.  You still have a regular job to fall back on and a steady paycheck.

2.  Less stress while starting your business.  There is less pressure to create an income, contacts, business accounts, etc. since you are still receiving an income with your existing job.

3.  Health Benefits may be provided by your current employer so there is no need to find benefit plans.

4.  You have a stronger basis for obtaining financing for your new business.

The choice to continue employment while starting your new career is up to you.  Follow your heart, consider all the options and consider what is best for you and your family.  Make sure that the transition fits in to your schedule and your life.

If you choose to continue your employment while starting your own business, it is important to consider the following as well:

1.  If your new business venture requires typical work hours (i.e. 8am to 5pm), this schedule could conflict with your current employment.  If you are not available or can not devote the amount of time needed to start your new business it may not get off the ground.

2.  Your new business venture will take you away from friends and family.  You will need to work your current job plus find time to work your new business.

3.  Working too many hours may tire you.  If you are tired at your current job, your performance may be in jeopardy and, in turn, put your job at risk.

Remember, transitioning in to that new work at home business is a slow process.  Take it a step at a time and you will see a much easier transition.
